Blue Algae Bloom Closes Beaches Along Treasure Coast

Commissioners in Martin County will hold an emergency meeting today in response to the algae crisis.  People are demanding answers, but the county is caught in the cross-hairs and says there isn’t much they can do about the discharges from Lake Okeechobee.  The Army Corps of Engineers has complete control of putting an end to the discharges inundated with algae.  As of yet, they haven’t announced an end to the discharges, citing the need for lower water levels at Lake Okeechobee.  Gov. Rick Scott will be in West Palm today and it’s likely the Martin County Commission will request that he declare a state of emergency.  To find out  if your beach is open call 772-320-3112
