McDonald’s Corporation, which has made changes to its famous Happy Meals in recent years in an ongoing effort to continue attracting health-conscious adults and most importantly, their children and grandchildren, is again about to change what comes in that colorful box.

The fast food chain has announced that it will drop cheeseburgers and chocolate milk from its Happy Meals and kids’ menus by June 2018. It will also replace small-sized orders of fries with kids-sized fries (whatever that means) in its 6-piece Chicken McNugget meals.

Steve Easterbrook, McDonald’s president and CEO, says, “We hope these actions will bring more choices to consumers and uniquely benefit millions of families.”

The company, which had previously replaced sodas with other beverages on its kids menu, is working with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation to keep itself relevant in an era in which consumers have started to count calories more and more in an effort to fight obesity and other health challenges.

Whether these latest changes will lead to more sales and happier (and healthier) customers is the big question. For now, you and your young ones can take comfort in knowing that the special toy will remain in those Happy Meals.
