Warner Brothers is looking to launch a new franchise based on Willy Wonka, reportedly tapping SNL writer Simon Rich and Paddington 2 director Paul King for a “re-imagining” of the Roald Dahl classic.
Producer David Heyman says it’s in the early stages, but says the film possibly be Willy Wonka’s origin story.
Wonka last appeared on screen in the 2005 Tim Burton adaptation starring Johnny Depp. Gene Wilder portrayed Wonka in the 1971 classic Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
